PROJECTS

Ravenscroft Nursery School
The new nursery school was completed to a very tight timescale and opened for the start of the new term much to the joy of the new intake of kids.

Ravenscroft Nursery is a two classrooms, 52 pupil, pre-school nursery in East Belfast. The pupils only attend the school for one year and as a result the main priority for the school was reducing the level of disruption to the children’s routine. The solution was to decant the school to an alternative temporary classroom block for the full year. Once vacated the existing building was demolished and a new modern building with improved facilities, natural day lighting, breakout provision and external play spaces was introduced in its place. The building was designed to fit into the surrounding environment with minimal impact on adjacent residential buildings, whilst delivering a modern and aesthetically pleasing solution. The building was positioned within the existing site to maximise the area set aside for Grass Play areas, shrub and planted areas. The comfort of staff, students and visitors has been addressed by providing highly energy efficient heating, and lighting systems. The building is equipped with underfloor heating.

The steps taken during the construction process to reduce environmental impacts Site Waste Management Plans are used on all projects and we use Smart Waste as its main tool for monitoring and managing all waste management activities.
Innovative construction management techniques Strategic Partnering allowed us to form an Integrated Design Team at a very beginning of the design process. Bringing all of the key stakeholders together resulted in designs which were optimised to meet aspirations as well as provide value for money.
A list of any social or economically sustainable measures achieved/piloted. The site was registered with the Considerate Constructors scheme. As part of our commitment to social sustainability we worked closely with local residents committees to ensure that disruption due to construction activities was kept to a minimum. Our regular newsletters provided the community with updates on the progress of construction
